SI is preparing for the fifty-fifth session of the UN Commission on Population and Development (CPD 55), to be held 25 – 29 April 2022. The CPD meets annually at the UN Headquarters in New York to assess the world’s progress on implementing the ICPD Programme of Action at the national, regional, and international levels. The special theme for the fifty-fifth session will be “Population and sustainable development, in particular sustained and inclusive economic growth”.
At the planning meeting held on 7 April, SI UN Representative, Bette Levy delivered an oral intervention, calling for “system-wide change to ensure all women and girls participate in the world of work as empowered equals”.
Soroptimist International has submitted a written statement to the Commission, urging countries, businesses, and development agencies to act now to ensure that economies and workplaces meet and enable human rights standards, including gender equality. Click HERE to read our full statement.
