"It’s horrifying that 1 in 3 women will experience violence in their
lifetime….just because they are female. But the good news is that there is hope! The world IS waking up to
the scandal of gender-violence and Soroptimists worldwide are determined
that this issue will not be ignored."
SI Presidents Alice Wells
(2011-13) and Ann Garvie (2013-15)
Soroptimist International is urging Soroptimists and supporters to
take part in a wave of social media action on Monday 25 November to mark
the UN’s International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, the first of 16 Days of Activism
Against Gender Violence.
The 2012-13 SI Global Impact Report launched yesterday alongside a new film (above) finds that the most successful tool in tackling violence against women is education. The report also highlights case studies of Soroptimist projects worldwide that use education and empowerment to change attitudes, including among men and boys.
Take Action!
Help to spread the word on 25 November: say NO to violence against women and YES to tackling it through education, empowerment and enabling opportunities.
