January

Winnie Maru, Soroptimist InternationaI Eldoret, Nairobi Soroptimist attended the Fifth Feminist Leadership, Movement Building and Rights Institute in Nairobi for a week-long course designed to strengthen feminist leadership, and on January 9, she also starred on KTN, a Kenyan television channel, on a show called the ‘Morning Express’. Winnie passionately debated the importance of feminism live on television making a real impact.

Soroptimist International held its first ever all-male panel for a side event at the Commission on the Status of Women, to highlight the need to break down barriers for men and boys in order to achieve gender equality. Read more here.

Soroptimist International welcomed its newest Club and first in the Dominican Republic: Soroptimist International Santo Domingo.  There are now Soroptimist International clubs in 129 countries and territories worldwide. Read more here.

Students from 35 New Zealand high schools have united to call for the safe return of the school girls abducated by Boko Haram in northern Nigeria, in a campaign co-ordinated by high school student and Soroptimist Caitlin Addison. Read more here
