Message from the Australian Network to Ban Landmines and Cluster Munitions:
Dear Members and Supporters of the Australian Network to Ban Landmines and Cluster Munitions (ANBLC)
We are calling for your help with our petition to the Government to amend the cluster munition legislation. We urgently need more signatures from both you and your wider networks.
It would be greatly appreciated if you could sign the petition, and circulate the following message to your networks (family, friends, colleagues, societies, groups and organisations) as soon as possible. We are most likely going to table the petition next week. We sincerely thank you for your help and ongoing support.
Cluster bombs are horrific weapons that kill civilians long after conflict has ended.
Australia has signed the international Treaty banning cluster bombs, but next week the Government will introduce its Bill in the Senate with unprecedented loopholes. The Bill will effectively allow Australian soldiers to actively and directly assist the US to use cluster bombs. The Bill also lets the US stockpile cluster bombs on Australian soil and does nothing to prevent ongoing investment in manufacture. The Cluster Munitions Coalition Australia have been lobbying both major parties but your public support is critical!
We URGE YOU to sign the petition at www.cmcaustralia.org and to pass it on to as many people as possible before the end of the week (1 July 2011)!
More information is also available at www.cmcaustralia.org or you can check out this clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmlJfDRNuXI&feature=related
Thank you for your vital support.
