UN Women, the European Union and the Government of Rwanda recently held a high level meeting to discuss the role of Gender Responsive Planning and Budgeting in increasing accountability and development effectiveness.
Taking place ten years after the 2001 High Level International
Conference Strengthening Economic and Financial Governance through
Gender-Responsive Budgeting, this global high level meeting provided an
opportunity to mobilise ambitious action on strengthening
gender equality outcomes in development cooperation and national level
planning and budgeting.
Watch UN Women Executive Director Michelle Bachelet on Gender-responsive Planning and Budgeting:
Meeting objectives:
- Provide a platform for policy dialogue on financing for gender
equality in the context of global development and aid effectiveness
frameworks and reform and multiple crises; - Provide an opportunity to reflect on experiences from national
governments, donors, and civil society with regard to gender responsive
planning and budgeting, and mainstreaming gender in aid management
instruments; and - Offer concrete and tangible recommendations for institutionalising
Gender Responsive Budgeting in national systems and enhancing political ownership at country
level.
A global call for action was agreed that brings together the policy recommendations agreed at the meeting. This call for action will feed into the Fourth High Level Forum on Aid
Effectiveness in Korea this November.
