To celebrate the Best Practice winners 2010 – 2011, we will be
running a special series of Best Practice blogs over the coming days.
These articles are written by the clubs themselves, and in many cases
will appear in English and the language of the club. We hope you enjoy
learning about the 2010 – 2011 Best Practice projects and take away
ideas and inspiration for the future!
Programme Focus Objective: Ensure equal access to education and training for women and girls throughout their lifespan.
Since the
members of our Soroptimist clubs in Israel are running projects to fulfill the
needs of their communities we thought that as an international women’s
organization, we should develop and organize a national project to improve the
difficult lives of foreign women workers (migrant workers) and their children
and the youth, many of them young orphaned girls from Africa.
Since all these
women are in Israel because they had to leave their countries and find a haven in their time
of need they have lost the family ties and support that made it possible to
raise their children in the extended family that is the culture of their
homelands. Some have been in Israel a long time and have children. All these children
speak Hebrew and wish to stay. All the Human rights organizations are trying to
help them stay. However, their culture is important.
How did we
become aware of their needs? We contacted the foundation “Mesilla” which
receives donations and runs a professional aid center in Tel Aviv for migrant
workers. We told them of our interest and asked for their help in identifying a
situation where we could help.
Representatives
of the SI Israeli Board, from all the clubs of Israel, came to the neighborhood, saw the terrible
situation of these women and especially the young girls and decided to come to help.
The board presented the idea to the Israeli Council and all the clubs decided
that this would be a national project and each club would help as much as it
could. During a visit to the area we started getting the feeling of what was
needed.
At the same
time we learned from a group of volunteers that have established an "Urban
Kibbutz" that they have opened "Dror" school in Jaffa for the young adolescent girls who are working part
time but want to learn a trade and have no formal schooling. We had a meeting
with the girls and the teachers and learned what their most urgent needs were.
The results
were:
- During the Mesilla
study tour of the neighborhood we raised 850 NIS (177 Euro) for basic equipment for the families we
visited. - Five clubs
raised 2,035 NIS (443 Euro) to fund the needs of the women and girls. - At the
beginning of the school year 20 children received school bags and the equipment
needed to participate in school in value of 1,000 NIS. (217 Euro) - The team came
to the Rehovot club and described their project and the needs of these youth
and the club invited the youth to come and visit the Weizmann Institute of
Science, and learn of the different scientific developments but also have an
opportunity to a fun day. - The club of Givatayim organized
outings to the Zoological Gardens, so
that they have a different experience of learning about nature. This was a good
opportunity for them to come out from their hard surroundings and have a joyful
activity. Our members participate with them on these outings and all the
expenses were paid by Israeli Action fund – 3,000 NIS. (652 Euro) - The Pardes Hanna/Karkur club organized
art workshops which make it possible for
these adolescent girls to express their feelings through art and to articulate
later with the professionals the difficulties that they are having. - Our professional photographer,
member of the Givatayim club, volunteers
her time and equipment and has documented the
process and the Mesilla
Foundation are using the pictures for a yearly calendar and also have an
ongoing exhibition which helps raise funds for employment of the professional
staff – social workers and lawyers. - The Givataim and Kiryat Tivon
clubs contributed 1,300 NIS (283 Euro) to make possible to an adolescent girl
to have an operation she needed. - The Israeli Union received 3,000
Euro from the European Federation Scholarship Fund to help a woman who
is working at the Mesilla Foundation in PR to finish her MA studies in social
work.The work that she is doing is to enlist the help for the migrant workers. - We received 5,000 Euro from the
Federation Action Fund to help pay the training of 5 orphaned refugee girls as
hairdressers and to acquire basic knowledge in cosmetics so that they will be
able to make enough for their basic needs and will prevent the danger of sexual
abuse or prostitution.
We are not alone,
other organizations are part of the efforts to help these women and children:
Mesilla, who
receive funds from the following organizations: The Faculties of Social Work of
the Tel Aviv and Bar Ilan Universities, the Union of African Workers, ARDC, for
African refugees, The Social Welfare Services of Eechilov and Wolfson Hospitals, Dror (the
Urban Kibbutz), The Weizmann Institute. All these organization contribute their services Pro
Bono.
The funds
raised by the clubs have been used not only for school equipment but also for
helping the mothers in the basic needs in their homes such as beddings, toys,
kitchen equipment etc. and to help other girls not fortunate enough to be
chosen for the Federation scholarships in obtaining training. This is an
ongoing project and we plan to continue helping these families as long as there
are families in need. The women tell us that even though they don’t know what
the future will hold for them, the support that they receive in their hour of
need has made a difference for them and their children.
In conclusion,
most of the 11 clubs of our Union participated
in this project by raising awareness to the issues involved, participating in
fund raising and in volunteering directly with the women, children and youth by
participating with them in workshops, study tours and in developing art courses
for the youth. We would like to emphasize that this project is very important
both for us as a Union and as citizens of Israel. By helping them we are joining forces with other
organizations in changing their present situation and working towards a better
future for them.

מטרה מספר 9: לאפשר גישה שווה ללימודים
ולאימון לנשים ולנערות במשך כל ימי חייהן.
תיאור הפרוייקט:
התיאור מבוסס על דווחי הפרוייקטים מספר: 17988-17993
המטרות שלנו היו:
1.
להקל ולהקטין את הקשיים בחיי נשים אילו.
2. לשפר חיי הילדים והנערות.
3.
ידידות וסולידריות.
הרלוונטיות והחשיבות של הפרוייקט:
בחירת הנושא נעשתה בהשראת המטרה שהציבה הנשיאה
העולמית, לסייע לנשים במצבי מצוקה ולילדיהן, בחיבור למציאות האיגוד הישראלי.
כלומר, החברות הסורופטימיסטיות,
במועדונים שלנו , ברחבי הארץ, מקיימות
פרוייקטים רבים למילויי הצרכים הקהילתיים, במקום מושבן.
חשבנו שנכון יהיה כאיגוד בינלאומי,
לארגן ולקיים פרויקט לאומי, בהשתתפות מועדונים רבים, יחד, לשפר חייהן הקשים של
נשים עובדות זרות וילדיהן וכן נערות פליטות, ברובן יתומות מאפריקה, המתגוררות
בישראל. לחולל שינוי בחייהן.
נשים אלו נאלצו לעזוב מולדתן, למצוא פרנסה
בארצות אחרות ולגדל ילדיהן הרחק ממשפחות הגרעין שלהן והרחק ממנהגיהן ותרבותן.
חלקן נמצא פרק זמן ארוך בישראל. ילדיהן
מדברים עברית ושואפים להישאר כאן. כל ארגוני זכויות האדם מנסים לסייע להן.
כיצד נעשינו מודעים לצרכיהן?
אליס, סגנית נשיאה, חברת מועדון קרית-טבעון, התחברה לצרכי הפרוייקט ולהפעלתו בצעדיו הראשונים
כשיצרה את הקשר עם "מסילה", הגוף המטפל במקצועיות בעובדות הזרות וכן
מקבל תרומות למענן.
נציגות המועדונים, השתתפנו בסיור למודי
בתל-אביב להכרת הסביבה הקשה בה חיים
העובדים הזרים.
כמו-כן, למדנו מצוות בי"ס
"דרור" , לנערות ונערים פליטים, ביפו. הנערות עובדות חלקית ולומדות בבית
הספר עברית ולמודים תיכוניים עם אוריינטציה מקצועית.
גם השתתפנו ביום חשיפה אמנותית לנושא באמצעות תערוכת
צילומים, שירה והיכרות עם הנשים.
התוצאות היו:
1)
במהלך סיור למודי בנושא
מסיל"ה, תרמנו, 850 ש"ח (177יורו), עבור מצרכי יסוד למשפחות שבקרנו.
2)
חברות מועדון קרית טבעון, תמכו בגדול בהשראה ובתרומות לאורך כל הדרך. התחילו
עם תרומה של 1000ש" (217יורו) לקניית ילקוטים לילדי העובדות הזרות שעלו לכתה
א’.
3)
חברות רוב המועדונים בארץ, תרמו בעין יפה כדי לאפשר להוציא את כל התלמידים
הפליטים לטיול למודי ,לא להשאיר אף נער או נערה בבית! גייסנו
2,035ש"ח (443יורו).
4)
טובית נשיאת מועדון גבעתיים וחברות
המועדון, סייעו רבות לאמהות ולילדיהן ולנערות הפליטות. הן קיימו סדרת סיורים לימודיים
לגן הזיאולוגי בת"א, בסיוע קרן הפעולה הישראלי,3,500ש"ח ( 652 יורו) .
הסיורים אפשרו לילדים לצאת מבסביבה הקשה בה הם נמצאים וספקה חוויה למודית שונה,
מאתגרת, לגבי הטבע ובעלי- החיים.
5)
קבלנו 5,000 יורו מקרן פעולה מהפדרציה האירופית לסייע לשלם עבור קורס לקידום
מקצועי, בסיסי, בתחום טיפוח החן ( ספרות, בניית צפורניים), ל-5 נערות פליטות במטרה
לאפשר להן קיום מכובד למען למנוע ניצול מיני או נפילה לזנות.
6)
האיגוד הישראלי קבל 3,000 יורו מהפדרציה האירופית , מלגת למודים עבור יעל
צוברי העובדת למען העובדים הזרים, ללימודי
תואר שני בעבודה סוציאלית. ההסבה המקצועית שעשתה, שדרגה מיומנויותיה
המקצועיות בעבודתה עם הנשים.
7)
נלי – מתאמת זכויות האדם ומעמד
האשה, באיגוד וחברת מועדון פרדס-חנה/כרכור, הובילה מול הפעילות בבי"ס
"דרור". ערכה סדנאות אמנות בהן ציירנו במשותף עם התלמידים ציור מקסים
המבטא חלומותיהם ורחשי לבם: בית, פרח, נחל, שביל, מחשב… בסדנה נוספת, בצעה אתם ציור אישי על מסיכות שאפשרה לנערות
המתבגרות לבטא רגשותיהן באמצעות האמנות ואחר לעבד עם הצוות המקצועי את הקשיים
העומדים בפניהן.
8) מועדוני קרית-טבעון וגבעתים, אספו ותרמו 1,300
ש"ח (283יורו) כדי לאפשר לנערה פליטה, מתבגרת, לעבור ניתוח לו הזדקקה.
9) חברות מועדון רחובות ארחו את הנערות והנערים
הפליטים בפארק המדע ברחובות, ע"ש ווייצמן. הם נחשפו לחידושים המדעיים אשר
במכון וכן זכו ליום של הנאה. בנוסף, קיימו במועדונן חוג בית עם צוות המורים,
המתנדבים, חברי הנוער העובד והלומד, המפעיל את בי"ס "דרור" שתיאר
את הפרוייקט וחשיבותו.
10) פנינה, חברת מועדון גבעתים, תעדה בצילום את התהליך
כלו. התערוכה היפה של צילומיה בנושא, התקיימה בבית-ציוני אמריקה, בת"א והפכה להיות תערוכה נודדת, המוצגת כיום בספריה
בגבעתיים. בפתיחות החגיגיות לתערוכות, השתתפו חברות סורופטימיסטיות רבות ממועדונים
ברחבי הארץ. ילדים מתוקים של העובדות הזרות יחד עם הגננות שלהן, נכחו, אף שרו שיר
בעברית. נמכרו עד כה אחת –עשרה תמונות,
ההכנסות נתרמו לטובת העובדות הזרות וילדיהן. סך של 4,800 ש"ח (870 יורו).
ארגונים רבים מעורבים לפעול למען הנשים
וילדיהן, ביניהם:
1)
ארגון "מסילה", מקבל קרנות מהפקולטה לעבודה סוציאלית באוניברסיטת
ת"א ומאוניברסיטת בר-אילן, מאיגודי פועלים באפריקה, מהשירותים הסוציאליים של
בתי-חולים איכילוב ווולפסון ועוד.
2)
בי"ס "דרור", ביפו.
3)
מכון ווייצמן למדע, ברחובות.
בנוסף, אספו חברות המועדונים, ציוד רב
לסייע לאמהות בצרכים בסיסיים, כמו, כלי מיטה ומטבח, צעצועים וכו’ זהו פרוייקט
מתמשך שעדיין לא הסתיים.
הנשים ספרו לנו כי למרות שאינן יודעות
מה צופן העתיד למענן, התמיכה שהן קבלו
מאתנו חוללה שנויי בחייהן ובחיי ילדיהן.
לסיכום:
רוב 12 מועדוני ישראל השתתפו בפרוייקט
ע"י העלאת המודעות לנושא, ע"י גיוס תרומות, בהתנדבות אישית עם הנשים, ילדיהן והנערות, בסדנאות
הלימוד בתחומי המדע, הטבע והאמנות, הקידום המקצועי ותערוכת הצילומים, המתקיימת
בימים אילו ממש.
ברצוננו להדגיש כי הפרוייקט חשוב מאוד
לנו כאיגוד וכאזרחי מדינת ישראל. בסיוע שאנו נותנים, אנו שותפים לארגונים רבים,
נוספים, במטרה לשנות מצבם הנוכחי ולעתיד טוב יותר.
