What is the NGO Forum?
NGO CSW/NY organises the civil society side of the UN Commission on the Status of Women and runs parallel to the official session taking place at the UN Headquarters in New York. This gives all of us the opportunity to engage in a multitude of CSW sessions on topics that interest us as we advocate for the lives of women and girls.
Last year there were 27,000+ participants and this year there will be over 500 events to look forward to – it is good to plan ahead, and if you haven’t already signed up for the SI Voices Advocacy Training Sessions then now is the time! Session 2 is on 19 February, this way, you can make the very best out of the CSW event which will inform, engage and inspire your grassroots efforts and advocacy work. (Session 1 will be available on our YouTube Channel later this week – so pop on over and subscribe to be alerted).
SI President, Maureen Maguire says: “I am delighted that many members registered for and attended the CSW66 Training Session 1. The presentations gave an excellent overview of what information could be of use to all attending CSW66, ranging from how to log-on and register, to reading relevant documentation such as the CSW66 Advocacy and pack and importantly – The Where We Stand Position Papers. A great example of how we educate, empower and enable our members”.
International Director of Advocacy Leigh Ellwood Brown adds: “With our team of our UN Representatives from various UN Centres, as President Maureen noted, our first Training session went very well, and we thank everyone involved including Vanesa Treers from the New York UN Centre, who took the lead on putting the PowerPoint together. We encourage you to use this information with other members to help Soroptimists understand more of the process and documents required to enhance their skills in Advocacy.
