Soroptimists from the South Kolkata club are using solar power to help students at a remote school in West Bengal.  Inspired by SI President Ann’s "See Solar, Cook Solar" Appeal, they have installed a 150 Watt solar panel at Jata High School on an island in the Sunderbans, covering five electric points for lights and one for a fan.

SI South Kolkata have also worked with Rotary Club of Calcutta South East to
distribute ten solar lanterns each to twenty promising students from different
villages at Bhadrapara Primary School and Dukherpool Primary School in the
Sunderban area who do not have access to electricity.

"The children, teachers
and the school authorities are delighted to receive these special gifts", says Club President Bhaswati Biswas.
