Soroptimists from SI South West Pacific (SISWP) are gathering for the Federation’s 19th Biennial Conference of Clubs in Kuching, Malaysia, which opens on Thursday. Soroptimists from the 13 SISWP countries will be joined by Soroptimist International President Ann Garvie and representatives of the other three Federations to meet, learn, share experiences and be inspired.
"The conference theme ‘Uniqueness in Diversity’, is to celebrate the unique programmes and solutions to meet the diverse needs and cultures of SWP countries", explains SISWP President Siew Yong Gnanalingam

"From Mongolia in the North to New Zealand in the South and from the Continent of Australia to Asian countries covering Thailand, Cambodia, Singapore Indonesia and Hong Kong through to the Pacific Islands of Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Samoa and the Solomon Islands, and Malaysia as the host country are all uniquely beautiful and different, in language, culture, religion, cuisine, and socio economic development."
The Conference programme includes speakers, among them YB Datuk Rohani Abdul Karim, Malaysian Minister of Women, Family & Community Development; panel discussions on women’s leadership and eliminating violence against women; presentations by International President Ann and representatives of each SI Federation; a celebration of best practice projects, as well as a selection of tours and activities for participants.
