We are delighted to announce a collaboration between Soroptimist International and Fundación Moisés Bertoni (FMB) to build a sports centre at the Mbaracayú Education Centre in Paraguay. This project aims to empower indigenous girls living in poverty by providing them with a technical education in Environmental Science and promoting their physical and mental well-being through sports.
Located within the Mbaracayú natural forest reserve, the Mbaracayú Education Centre protects the unique biodiversity of the region and offers a boarding school for indigenous girls aged 15-18. By constructing a fully equipped sports centre, we seek to enhance physical activity, develop sports skills, and provide training for 120 girls under the guidance of a Sports and Exercise Science Teacher. Workshops will cover topics such as gender violence prevention, self-esteem, collaboration, and nutrition.
Additionally, a Youth Environmental Camp will be organised within the reserve for 40 participants aged 18-21, promoting gender equality, violence prevention, and environmental leadership. With objectives to bridge the opportunity gap, prevent gender-based violence, develop environmental youth leaders, and promote healthy living, this project harnesses the power of sport to empower marginalised girls.
