"As I sit
gazing from my window looking towards the snow clad hills and idyllic frost
covering the garden, my thoughts fast forward to the magical beauty of
Istanbul, where the warmth of the sunshine will welcome every delegate to
Convention 2015.

Istanbul is
no ordinary place, it is a magnificent city where west meets east and the
culture is unique. The backdrop will showcase the true value and
worth of being a member of Soroptimist International. This is something each and
every one of us should cherish regardless of the level of service, leadership
or commitment which we have given to our communities, local, national and
internationally.  

For many
delegates this will not be their first experience. Attendance at an
International Convention is never to be forgotten. Some will have been to
convention in Istanbul 32 years ago, some more recently, in San Francisco,
Helsinki, Sydney, Glasgow and Montreal. All will have their individual memories
of significant moments and experiences.

For example,
for me in Helsinki 24 hours of daylight and bed socks hand knitted by members. Being invited to speak in Sydney, as Federation President Elect, with just one days’
notice. In Glasgow meeting Immediate Past International President Joan Cromer,
from the airport, having recently returned from visiting South Africa and
Zimbabwe with her, to visit Club projects, the core value of our mission and
vision.

“What is the best thing about being part of
convention”?

Without
doubt the realisation that you are special and you are a part of an outstanding
global family. The convention experience is so unique, the friendships which
are generated, renewed and last a lifetime are life changing, enriching and refreshed,
face to face every four years as Soroptimist International rotas around the
four Federations, Kula Lumpur next in 2019!  

The
experience will showcase to you your individual worth, you will be recharged
and stimulated by the key note speakers and the outstanding individual
contributions of Soroptimists. You will be challenged, engaged and focused Educate
to Lead, Fresh Ideas Empowering Women in a location steeped in diverse culture.

Convention
is an excitement which becomes a unique personal experience and an adventure,
which you will share with likeminded friends. Vivid memories will remain with
you for the rest of your life. There will be special moments, when without fear
you will reflect and contribute to the debate, discussion and decision making
processes which will enlighten your friends and the organisation alike.

The
Convention experience is also fun filled, you will work hard and play hard, you
will return home exhausted but enriched, you will be determined to influence
the way forward.

As February
2015 approaches there are only 28 days to go, for early bird registration, take
advantage of this. I and the International Board look forward to welcoming you
as a very special delegate.
