Would you like to meet with Soroptimist sisters in the USA?
SIA’s
Northwestern Region, which includes Alaska, Washington, Oregon, northern Idaho
and Montana, is pleased to offer a Grant of Friendship to one or two
Soroptimists or a Soroptimist and her partner from outside the United States. The Grant is for a two to three week period
beginning in April 2016 and will include the Soroptimist Northwestern Region
Conference, which is being held on 21 – 24 April 2016 in Spokane, Washington.
Making friends – A Soroptimist journey
Working to develop a
spirit of friendship and unity among Soroptimists of all countries, The Grant
of Friendship for the Northwestern Region of Soroptimist International of the
Americas was first proposed at the NWR Region Conference in 1989. Joan Silver,
Christina Christensen & Avis (DeRuyter) Ogden developed the application
process, with the first invitations being distributed in 1990-1991, and the very
first visitors arriving in 1991-1992.
Promoting goodwill and friendship, 2008
The Grant has resulted in visitors coming from all over the
world. Previous years have seen ladies
from Australia, India, Sweden, Kenya, Great Britain, Germany, and Japan.
In order to promote international goodwill and understanding
between countries applications are now being taken for the Grant, with lodging,
meals, hospitality and travel between clubs provided by the Northwestern Region.
Visitors will be responsible for their own travel expenses to and from the
United States and spoken English is required. Interested Soroptimists are
invited to request an application by April 1, 2015.
