Upcoming event: United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Beijing+30 Civil Society Consultation, 19 and 20 October 2024

The NGO Committee on the Status of Women Geneva (NGO CSW Geneva) has announced the upcoming United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Beijing+30 Civil Society Consultation, scheduled for 19-20 October 2024 in Geneva. This in-person event will bring together NGO CSW Geneva member organizations, member states, and key stakeholders to review UNECE’s progress on the 1995 Beijing Platform for Action (BPfA) and its 12 Critical Areas of Concern. Honoured guest speakers and NGO CSW Geneva will reflect on the progress made since the BPfA, address existing challenges, and provide actionable resources for driving change for women and girls across the UNECE region.

Recognising the importance of Civil Society engagement, NGO CSW Geneva invited all interested NGOs to participate in reviewing the 12 critical areas of concern for the UNECE regions, via online working groups focused on each of the 12 critical areas of concern. The active involvement of civil society representatives from all 56 UNECE countries is a key feature of this consultation. These representatives participated in Working Groups focused on the 12 Critical Areas of Concern from the Beijing Platform for Action (BPfA). Each group produced a 1,000-word statement highlighting civil society’s concerns, achievements, gaps, and challenges, along with actionable recommendations for short, medium and long-term goals.

Participants will have the opportunity to engage with prominent civil society leaders, discuss the critical issues facing women today, and contribute to shaping future advocacy efforts. The event will include expert-led discussions and working groups, offering practical recommendations to governments, UN bodies, and the private sector.

For those interested in attending the event (in person only), registration is now open.
