Challenges of Climate Change: SI Signs Joint COP26 Statement

As world leaders and member states gear up to the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) taking place from 31 October – 12 November 2021, 62 Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) have joined together, as part of the Conference of NGOs in Consultative Relationship with the United Nations (CoNGO), to issue an important statement “Challenges of Climate Change”.

CoNGO President, Liberato Bautista, stated that:

“We must heed the warnings of a climate catastrophe and accept the invitation of Mr. Guterres to contribute our part as civil society in saving succeeding generations from climate change, and more. We must not delay turning the words of the NGO statement into action.”

Soroptimist International has endorsed this statement, along with other NGOs who also have consultative status to the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

The joint statement demands that measures and actions need to be taken to tackle climate change without delay, split into sections focusing on specific areas: Mitigation; Adaption; Participation and Cooperation; and Financial Frameworks.
