Greetings from International President Ann Garvie

 

Sadly, as we
depart from 2014 we leave behind many recent tragedies which have taken their
toll on societies within our Soroptimist family. In Peshawar, Pakistan, the
massacre of more than 100 school children and their teachers by the Taliban has been met with condemnation. Only days earlier in Australia, a terrorist attack on a coffee shop killed two members
of a town’s community; one a young woman in her prime, leaving
behind three children, just ten days before the Season of Goodwill and understanding.

At this time
of ‘good cheer’ such sadness is  tragic for families, friends and communities and our thoughts should be with the bereaved. On behalf of Soroptimist International, may I convey condolences. Sadly respect,
understanding and tolerance fail to prevail. 

Within
Soroptimist International our thoughts should especially be with Immediate Past
International President Alice, who very recently lost her home in a fire,
leaving Alice and Dave with only memories and much sadness. Alice has shown calm and
dignity throughout, but such a happening must impact upon ones inner strength.
Our thoughts are with you Alice.

At the grassroots level I congratulate every Soroptimist for the effort you have shown in
delivering outstanding projects though your local, national and international
programme work during 2014; the very soul of our global Soroptimist work. I am
indebted to every Soroptimist from the four Federations who have contributed
most generously to the International President’s December 10^th
Appeal, your contributions are outstanding, thank you.

In July 2015
the International Board looks forward to welcoming and greeting every delegate
to the 20^th International Convention in Istanbul, I urge you to
register for convention when you have recovered from the festive session, after
what I hope will have been a magical experience for you, your families and your
friends. The convention website has all the information you may need. 

I wish every
member of Soroptimist International, peace, happiness and success throughout
2015 – remember the value of International friendship;
