“Women hold up half the sky.” Mao Zedong

Soroptimist International projects often help to facilitate and empower women to take on roles in leadership and as a veteran of international banking and finance, and vice-chairman for UBS Wealth Management in Asia, Tracey Woon is at the top of her game. With years of experience building client relationships with entrepreneurs and business owners, Tracey is well placed to lead the discussions on women in business and what it takes to lead in the investment industry. Tracy notes that all investors will generally look for the best investment returns, however, research has shown that in stark contrast to men, women are often more focused on investing to achieve positive social change. Last year, UBS made it a priority to come up with a 5-year plan to significantly scale up its expertise to better serve female clients.

One study by a US-based outfit Center for Talent Innovation found that 88 percent of women want to invest in organisations that promote social wellbeing. Female investors could be set to invest US$2.3 trillion in improving social good by 2021 according to a UBS calculation based on a Gap Gemini World Wealth Report.

“I’ve always thought it’s possible to have a work-life balance,” says Tracey, although like many in high-level roles she has made sacrifices; and was previously famed as a five-time Singapore National Squash champion!

Tracey graduated from the University of Singapore (now the National University of Singapore) with an LLB in 1979. She was Vice Chairman of Citibank ASEAN Corporate and Investment Banking, before joining UBS AG in 2016.  She was also conferred 2016 IBF Distinguished Fellow Award and was appointed Vice Chairman, Asia Pacific, Wealth Management, UBS AG in July 2016.
