United Nations Security Council Resolution (SCR) 1325 was established to address the impact of war on women, and increase women’s contributions to conflict resolution and sustainable peace.10 years has passed since this important resolution was first published. It has been enhanced by further SCRs but is still ignored in many countries.
Soroptimists around the world MUST lobby their governments to make sure that they are fully implemented. An attempt to put indicators into place has largely failed and so it seems that it is us – civil society – that must keep watching and lobbying! There are movements in the USA and the UK to do this already.
Here at CSW, we heard of National Action Plans and Programmes that had been highly successful in Columbia and the Philippines as well as one about to be launched in Nepal. So keep watch on your government’s decisions and make sure that the terms of SCR 1325 are implemented in your situations and that the UN implements its own Resolutions!
