Dear Soroptimists
After long and lengthy discussions, and reading and listening to many Soroptimists from around the globe, the Soroptimist International Board at its recent meeting, decided to rescind the decision to hold the SI 2027 Convention on a cruise ship.
Having reflected on the many concerns for and against a cruise that had been brought to its attention, the Board agreed that this was in the best interests of women and girls who are disproportionately impacted by climate change and environmental issues, and also SI and our global work.
This outcome has been relayed to the SI 2027 Convention Chair Sharon and her Committee, and the Board has asked that they research alternative venues within the countries of Soroptimist International of the Americas.
On behalf of the SI Board,
Maureen Maguire
SI President, 2022 – 2023
Thank you all for this wise decision!
Thanks!
Being able to revise decisions if necessary shows leadership…
A good decision
It is good to know that our integrity remains intact now.
Wonderful news. Look forward to the next Convention in a lovely place in the Americas.
Thanks for your decisions for the convention to be agreed to take place in the SI of the Americas.
Thank you Maureen!
Great decision! Thank you.
Thank you for hearing us, and acting upon it regarding all those who were discontented with the planned cruise as it was against our goals and work. Thank you for listening and acting upon this, it is appreciated.

This is a very disappointing development.
SI PRESIDENT MAUREEN MAGUIRE.
I ACCEPT YOUR DECISION WITH THE BOND AND COMMITTEE MEMBERS.
THANK YOU!
Recommendation: Virgin Islands
Definitely not a state with major humidity in the summer months.
Fantastic news! Thank you so much for listening!
I have earlier suggested Oakland to be the host of the Vinvention in 2027. This is because the organisation was forundrede there in 1921
Very good idea, please look into it.
Very good decision !
Oui je suis de même avis pour le changement de lieu de la convention dans un pays de l’Afrique Ouest
Félicitations au conseil d’administration

Dear Madam President
I am sorry to hear of the cancellation of the convention being held on the cruise liner. However, the majority must rule.
A problem was presented but did the members put forth an alternative or suggest solutions that could offset our carbon footprint?
I am a Canadian but I have lived in Australia for the past 46yrs. I recently travelled to Canada to visit family and offset my footprint by planting trees and bushes on my property. I live in the outback of New South Wales – a place called Walgett – property name of Leconfield. I live nine (9) hours from Sydney.
We could have offset out convention by donating trees, plants, vegetable plants and flowers to nations that really require it such as African nations.
I am looking forward to the Convention as this will be my first.
Until then, I remain yours in Sisterhood

Thank you so much for this decision!
Out of interest what would have been the cost of a place on the cruise ship?
Hi Lorraine – if you could email your question to hq@soroptimistinternational.org, and we will be able to respond. Thank you.
Totally agree with the decision. Thank you for listening.
Very wise decision. Thank you!
