On behalf of Soroptimist International and the Conference of Non-Governmental Organisations in Consultative Relationship with the United Nations (CoNGO), we are pleased to publish this joint statement on artificial intelligence (AI) and its impacts on women and girls in the spirit of International Women’s Day 2025.
While artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies present new opportunities, we must not overlook the risks tied to their rapid development. Indeed, the misuse of technology, including AI, intensifies the dangers that women and girls encounter daily.
This statement urges governments worldwide to ensure the safety of all women and girls online and offline. Implementing these recommendations would guarantee that all women and girls can thrive in an increasingly technological and digitalised world, where AI is becoming more dominant and a catalyst for lasting change.
Today, the human rights of women and girls around the world continue to be repressed and violated. We must stand more united than ever to achieve positive and lasting change.
Soroptimist International and CoNGO are pleased to have the support of over one hundred civil society organisations spanning all corners of the globe who have endorsed this statement and its recommendations.
This is our call to governments to act now.
In solidarity,
Siew Yong Gnanalingam | President, Soroptimist International | siew.yong@soroptimistinternational.org
