On June 9th, Anne Yedowitz, SI UN Representative for over 20 years, was remembered at a memorial service held at the UN Centre in New York. This message from SI Immediate Past President, Margaret Lobo, was read out in tribute to Anne. A full obituary will follow in this month’s TIS, out later this week. Many thanks to Yoko Komori Olson for sharing this story with us.

Anne Yedowitz -This was a lady with a presence!
I met Anne at my first International Board meeting in
Anne had a passion for ensuring that women and girls were treated fairly and with equality no matter where they lived. She walked the corridors of the UN in
She attended meetings as often as she could to speak on behalf of SI and our objectives. There were meticulously written reports faxed on to SIHQ detailing what has been achieved on behalf of women and girls.
Anne did NOT let technology stop her from doing what she was passionate about….She could always find someone to work the technology for her so that no impact was lost and Soroptimists were recognised for what they do.
She was responsible for the reputation SI now has at the UN: One of respect. Although she would not EVER accept the credit for this, but always included all members that have worked towards achieving our goals.
Anne had a wonderful sense of humor and after meetings one could relax with her as she enjoyed her glass of Scotch and recalled the day’s achievements. Anne Yedowitz will be sorely missed but her legacy will live on as she has mentored many and been an inspiration to many more.
Thank you Anne for your sincere friendship.
Margaret Lobo
